The Golden Anchor Program
A New International "Do Good" Volunteer Service!

Purpose
"The Golden Anchor Program volunteers seek to support, enjoy the company of and bring joy to Delta Gamma's elders and other senior citizens who reside in our community and/or care facilities throughout the United States and Canada."

If you would like to participate in this new national and international Delta Gamma program, please read on.

Here are two Golden Anchor volunteer programs where you could help our seniors and visually impaired in our local community.

1. The Forum...a senior community in Cupertino, CA.

Mission:
To assist visually impaired residents and other seniors who live in the Assisted Care facility, at The Forum.

Some activities that you might choose to assist the residents:

  • Work with the visually impaired doing one on one activities related to their specific needs. You could also help them feel comfortable socializing with others in general activities.
  • Help residents plant a garden
  • Guide a Bible study group
  • Assist with a Scrap booking activity
  • Assist with plans for a new aviary … bird house

Contact:
If you are interested in volunteering, you can pick up a volunteer form stating your particular interest and time. These forms are at the reception area in the Health Care Center at the Forum. If you would like Sharmila MacKellor, Activities Manager, to send you the volunteer form, leave a message for her at….
650-944-0246.

2. Help Your Buddy

Mission:
To assist our visually impaired "buddies" with their every day challenges.

We have many visually impaired buddies, some seniors, who live in their homes and need a "lift" emotionally or physically at times. We have met many of these special "buddies" at our annual Christmas Party, and other events which we have sponsored over the past 35 years. Many are not DGs but need someone to talk to, to drive them to the grocery store, go to lunch and/or many other specific needs. If some of you are already doing this..Bravo!

Contact your buddy and set a time that is convenient for both of you to meet.
If you don't have a buddy, email Lolly Osborne at lolly@osbofamily.com, and she could suggest someone. Lolly and other alumnae also organize music activities that would be fun for you and your buddy to attend. We will keep all our volunteers informed of any special events to attend with your buddy.

So, how do I participate and sign up?

If you are interested in participating in either program, follow the steps below. Remember these are programs designed for you to be flexible in your volunteer activity. You set the volunteer time you can give.

1. Pick the service you wish to volunteer
2. Follow the contact information for each program to set your volunteer time and task.
3. Copy and paste the Volunteer Form below in a new email message.
4. Fill out the copied form and email your message to Sherry Herrgott… sherrryh50@aol.com

Since this Golden Anchor program is an international program, I will be tracking our alumnae volunteer hours for these two programs. You can email your volunteer hours for either program to me. If you have any other questions, or other ideas, please contact me. These two programs are a start and we can add new ones as the need and interest arises. Also, if you are already volunteering in the community working with seniors, or visually impaired, let me know. Total volunteer hours should be submitted to me via email.

You can make a Difference!!
